- History/Legend of the Temple During the Chola Kings' rule in 1053, Varadharaja Perumal Temple was constructed. The Chola Kings, King Vikrama and King Kulottunga Chola I, further extended it. The gopuram and the complex's wall were built in the fourteenth century. Following the Mughals' siege on the area in 1688, the primary idol was transported to Udayarpalayam, which is today a part of Tiruchirappalli.
