More Information
- History/Legend of the Temple Ancient times are connected to the temple's history of existence. It was thought that the temple's existence and building were due to the well-known saint Herander. In order to connect the River Cavery to the Bay of Bengal, he traveled through the earth's underground passageways. Because the river was linked in a controlled way, the connected location became known as the Tiruvalanjuzhi. In accordance with the astrological ideas, a temple featuring the Vinayaga or the lord Ganesha was to be built there. As a result, the temple was built and is still highly revered today. Near Thanjavur, in the tiny village of Thiruvalanchuzhi, sits the Vellai Pillaiyar Temple. The primary god is Lord Shiva, also known as "Kapardiswarar," and his spouse, "Goddess Brihannayaki." A sage named Herander, according to Hindu mythology, traveled through an underground passage to Nether Land, brought the holy River Cauvery to Earth, and caused it to flow in the direction of the Bay of Bengal. It took place in this village. It appears that the Vinayakar Statue in this temple was composed of white stone. A Vinayakar statue was allegedly made out of sea sand and left here by Lord Indra, the head of the Devas. The statue remained in place when he returned to retrieve it, so a temple was erected over it.
