- History/Legend of the Temple Achutha Nayaka of Thanjavur built the Ramaswamy temple in the 16th century. Maha Mandapams are embellished with beautiful stone carvings of Rama-Katha.Some of the temple's most famous carvings include Vamana Avatharam, Meenakshi Kalyanam, and Sukreeva Pattabisegam.The outside Prahara is made up of all 219 wall murals that depict scenes from the classic epic "Ramayanam".The other temples in the temple complex include Alwar Sannathi, Sreenivasa Sannathi, and Gopalan Sannathi.
